This man, Abubakar Shekau, leads a Nigerian militant group called Boko Haram, which claims to be Islamist in its beliefs.

These are the Boko Haram men. They are known for terrorist attacks and atrocities against civilians.
These heavily armed, dangerous men believe that young girls should not be exposed to Western education and would better serve their communities as wives and mothers. Boko Haram have taken responsibility for kidnapping almost 300 Nigerian schoolgirls.
Initially, media houses did not give this shocking story of human suffering enough attention.
People also felt that this man, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, was not treating the kidnapping with the urgency it deserves.

This led to ordinary people, world politicians, religious leaders, celebrities, businesses and other organisations taking to social media, armed only with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls to demand the return of the girls and show support for the traumatised families.
So, next time you come across the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls on social media, do share and retweet the content to help raise and maintain awareness about the Nigerian schoolgirls until they return home safely.

I hear all your valid points. I just think that the hashtag has been very effective in starting conversations such as the one that you and I are having. As naïve as it may sound, maybe the more we rant and rave, the more we march and sign petitions, the more we do whatever little we can, however small and ineffective it may seem, who knows…maybe the message will land, not only on the ears and hearts of Boko Haram but also on those of people who have the power to order our armies to go and get our girls back.
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate you spending some time on my blog. Do become a regular. 🙂

My.. issue, yes maybe it is an issue. My issue is with the hastag, how is the hashtag going to help bring back these girls? To me that part is still not clear. It’s very clear that Boko Haram members don’t give a damn about anything and they are prepared for anything. Yet all people do on social networks is hashtag the situation.
How about we go to government buildings and coase a *rawkus*, senze kucace ba if OUR government doesn’t use all the technology they have to find the location, we wont work, wont pay for taxes wont do fokol. Lets toi-toi to them buildings till a navy chopper flies to Naija and help out… Stuff protocol, fight a ninja with ninja techniques.
